How did I meet Josh D'Amaro, Disney’s New CEO?

How did I meet Josh D'Amaro, Chairman, Disney Parks, Products, and Experiences?

I was looking up and I said hello.

Our world has become so consumed with “content” that we are forgetting to be content. Life has some pretty magical moments when you look up to see things with your own eyes.

There is an incredible power in disconnecting from what we are often “told” to see or do {made even more intense by those sneaky algorithms} and embracing time to just be the person our clients need. Especially that VIP client... your family.

Big news from Disney on naming Josh D'Amaro as new CEO has me remembering the time I ran into him. Almost literally.

While we don't know exactly how things will go over the next few years under this new leadership, I can tell you that some of the most impactful leaders I’ve experienced are those that recognize and value the human part of the work. The employees working for the organization, as well as the everyday people that the organization serves.

Unfortunately, I've also worked with a few people with leadership titles that value their ego, expense card, or finding a photo op far more than the actual work. There is a clear difference in their impact... positive and negative.

Smart leaders don't just play the game when it benefits them. They live it every day because it's who they are.

The fact that Josh stopped and talked with me for a couple minutes told me a lot about him that day. There are countless stories of others having similar encounters. No matter how hard employees work, organizations tend to get their reputation from the interactions people have with leaders.

Here’s to a new era for the company and Josh bringing the magic to infinity, and beyond!

Three mistakes that will stall your growth and deplete your energy:

only doing things because it is proving successful for others {forgetting they have a team, it's their niche, or they genuinely like it}

someone you follow told you that you have to do it {and now the algorithms have you thinking that *everyone* is doing it. They are't. And there is joy in missing out on some things}

not slowing down to connect deeper with yourself, your purpose, and your people. Take a break.

Is there incredible value in learning from others? Yes! But the reason it seems so overwhelming is because it isn’t authentic to you or your organization. Do yourself a favor and step back, look up, and see what shows up. Literally.

It could very well be a chance encounter with someone also living in the moment to experience their company through their own eyes. I mean, what better way to know your guest experience than to be a guest? Mickey shirt and all.
