Don’t Forget the Little Things
Over focus on details that others tend to under focus. Even if 10% of your clients/customers/staff notice, they will recognize the care and diligence you take in “the little things”. That attentiveness will generate some of your biggest advocates.
Small shifts can have huge impact, many of which require no budgetary expense {or for peanuts...} and at the end of the day internal and external buy in will make all the difference in your long term success. So many people think the little nods are a waste of time or just nonsense, when in turn they are quite easy to implement and bring a bit of levity to otherwise stagnant initiatives.
Some quick methods I learned while working for and visiting Walt Disney World:
· Coin a catchphrase such as “Have a magical day!” or “It’s a great day to be a {team name/mascot}
· Use themed backgrounds for virtual meetings that represent your message while also generating conversation
· Ask for an autograph on documents versus a signature
Ongoing, small gestures have a longer lasting impact than one grand display. Embrace what makes you different. When we allow ourselves and our businesses to have a unique quirk, phrase, or approach it will have sticking power, making it hard for people to shake it from their mind.
